Firemans Paving Contractors (FPC) is excited to announce that as of October 31, 2020 we are certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency (NCTRCA) . The primary remedial goal and objective of the DBE program is to level the playing field by providing small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals a fair opportunity to compete for federally funded transportation contracts.
Firemans Paving Contractors was founded in 2014 and has been certified as a Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women’s Business Council – Southwest since 2016. Renee Gilmore, President and founder, is an active member in the Council, serving on committees, attending events, sponsoring programs and actively seeking opportunities to utilize and support other WBEs. FPC is proud to have been awarded the WBE of the Year in both 2018 and in 2020!
The Women’s Business Council – Southwest (WBCS) covers a 4-state area. It is a regional affiliate of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the largest third-party certifier of women-owned businesses in the U.S., and a leading advocate for women business owners and entrepreneurs. Their mission is to fuel economic growth globally by identifying, certifying, and facilitating the development of women-owned businesses. WBENC Certification validates that a business is at least 51 percent owned, controlled, operated and managed by a woman or women. Their world-class certification standard is accepted by more than 1,000 corporations representing America’s most prestigious brands, in addition to many states, cities and government entities.
The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved WBENC as a third-party certifier for Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification as part of the SBA’s WOSB Federal Contracting. The SBA’s WOSB Federal Contract Program provides greater access to federal contracting opportunities for WOSBs and economically-disadvantaged women-owned smalls businesses (EDWOSBs) enabling women’s businesses to effectively compete and win contracts with the government. The federal government’s goal is to award at least five percent of all federal contracting dollars to women-owned small businesses each year.
The Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Program was created to promote full and equal procurement opportunities for small, minority and women-owned businesses. State agencies, including institutions of higher education, use the HUB Directory to solicit bids from certified HUBs. Firemans Paving has been a HUB certified company since 2016.
Firemans Paving Contractors (FPC) is proud to be a TIPS Awarded Vendor. TIPS is an acronym for The Interlocal Purchasing System. TIPS is a national purchasing cooperative that offers access to competitively procured purchasing contracts to its membership. TIPS is housed at and managed by the Region 8 Education Service Center located in Pittsburg, Texas.
